Me Myself and My Mom

My mom and I have a very special relationship. As I have over the last year been living here in Turkey and my mom is in USA, I have grown to appreciate and love and miss her more than I have all my life. You know the saying, "Don't take advantage of something you have because once it's gone you will miss it more"? OK, so maybe that is not exactly the real saying but there is something about missing it more once you lose something... Right? (Right) So... My mom is far far away from me and since in a couple days it will be Mother's Day I thought it is most important to write about my mom and me.
I was born in the early 1970's and my mom was a single mother. Of course, it is all too common to be a single mother now, but it was not all that common when I was growing up and it is not easy in any universe to be a single mother at anytime. Such was the case for my mom. My mom was 20 when I was born and she did not chose to be a single mother. Her husband was not really nice to her and he pretty much just took off and come to think of it, although as a child I very much wanted a father in the home, I had mom and that was all the warmth and love I needed. My mom was very good to us. I had a younger sister too and an older one. It was us 4 always doing things. My mom took us to the beach often. My mom loved the beach and we lived in San Diego California. I loved it there. My mom always read to us. My mom loved books and would read and read for us. At night, she would read to us a story, sing us a song and kiss us good night. My mom always smelled so good.
Mom married when I was 10 and for a couple of years I tried testing this new man's patience. They are still married to this day so they are still deeply in love.
My mom never has said anything about anyone in a gossipy way. Mom NEVER EVER gossips. I have never heard my mom say anything negative either. The one thing I know mom hates are rats and mice. She will TOLERATE Guinea Pigs... for one year: Because I had one. She will not go in any room knowingly if there is a rodent in the room... But looking back, Guinea Pigs are supposed to have a life span of  5-7 years but I think mom thought that they had the same as a mouse which is a lot less like one or two years and so after Valentine was 2 years old, she talked me into trading her for a Bird. Come to think of it, my dad did not allow the pet shop owner to let me walk out the front door with the Guinea Pig. I am sure my dad had to pay the owner of the shop to take my Guinea pig... I will have to blog that story one day... this is about my mom.
Mom never said anything bad about a neighbor of ours that used to watch us from across the street with binoculars. Another blog for another day. And mom never said anything bad about anyone in her family which she had the right to do. Mom used to dance around the kitchen with us and sing with us. My mom took me to my first concert: Neil Diamond. My mom always taught me about God. She taught me to pray and she always said nothing is impossible with God. My mom always taught me with a soft heart and soft words, any argument can be settled. My mom never ever yelled at me. Nor my other siblings. My mom hated lying, and crudeness. I had a tenancy to use potty words when I was upset or annoyed. My mom taught me to use proper words and not potty words. My mom taught me about woman's rights too. My mom was a feminist in the sense that women deserve to be treated in a loving and kind way. My mom is all about women being treated right in a bad and harsh and men world. My mom taught me how to love. My mom had a really hard life and faced adversity in her life. However, my mom used grace, love, forgiveness, kindness and honor and sophistication to become a more beautiful more kind and generous person. My mom is the person I hope to be one day. I am grateful for my mom and all she sacrificed for a better life for me. My mom is my best friend, biggest fan, and the one that listens to me when it feels like no one else wants to hear me. Thanks mom for being so awesome! How lucky I am to have such a beautiful person raise me to be the best person I can be! Thank you mom for believing in me and Thanks mom for being my chauffeur, cook, nurse, fashion consultant, vacation partner, beach buddy, walking partner, shopping buddy , craft friend, and anything else you did for me I did not mention! I love you Mom!
